You will use it more often than French (at least that has been my experience). Just a point to note ( you probably know anyway) that American Spanish is different in pronunciation, grammar, slang and so on than Castillian ( European) Spanish. If your future career will be US based, you'll want to write ( and sound) like your main customers.
