Is there any good way to learn French for free?

April 20, 2009 by admin · 3 Comments

I really want to learn French, but I can't afford to pay for software, books, or classes right now. (All ready in enough college debt). P.S. : My college doesn't offer French so don't even go there.

Salut,

Heres a good grammar site:

http://www.laits.utexas.edu/tex/gr/

And one to start off with:

http://french.about.com

Then, when you have enough knowledge to say a few things, find a native with basic English and 'use each other' so to speak!

Is the Rosetta Stone program to learn French is really good?

April 1, 2009 by admin · 11 Comments

I'm French and my boyfriend who speaks english really want to learn. He just bought the first 2 volumes, super expensive, is this a real good program?

I use rosetta stone for Japanese (granted I got it as a gift) and I like it though I would not pay$200 for it nor would I use it as a teaching tool in exclusion of other tools. I believe the quickest way to learn another langauge is to "immerse" yourself in in and use the target langauge as often as possible. Rossetta stone allows you to model correct words and sentance structures even if you dont always understand everything that you are saying.

How long does it take to learn French?

February 14, 2009 by admin · 7 Comments

As a native English speaker how long would you say it would take to learn French? I was thinking about taking lessons twice a week.
I'm actually moving to Canada soon.
Estimation on average…

How much do you want to know?

Usually by one year you should have knowledge of some basic French. By two or three years you should be able to write and read in it well. If you're surrounded by French people, you should learn French faster.

However, learning French is a lifelong process… this goes for any language.
