Learn French 15

January 10, 2009 by admin

Sorry for making such a long video ! Plus, I made some horrible english mistakes (ts, ts, ts NOT GOOD!)

Trying to explain some french pronunciation rules, taking the word “BONJOUR” as an example.

B = pronounced like the english B (baby/ブ)

ON = French nasal sound, pronounced like in the video at 1:32
“ON” should be pronounced that way when placed at the very end of word or in front of a consonant. In front of B or P, the letter N becomes M.

J = pronounced like in the video at 5:05 (j ≠ dj)!!!

OU = pronounced [ue/ウ] like in “true”

R = See video called “Pronunciation of the French R”:

    don’t worry too …
    don’t worry too much about the english mistake “understanding.” native speakers make that mistake all the time, at least in america. i was actually a little thrown to discover that it was a mistake! of course, striving for perfection is a goal. your english pronunciation is fabulous

Are you in the U.S. and would you be interested in sharing your email address. I have a friend who is from West Africa but I am experiencing difficulty learning from him. I am also wanting to learn Japanese and Spanish. Arie
