    No.
    You can’t.

It takes several years, tens of years to fluently learn a language.
By august, you might get your numbers, colors,
and maybe, JUST maybe if you are lucky, some animal names down.

    But nice try.

Easy learn the foundation of french first/basics. Then from then on you can build it up. Websites! Learn from simple words and get to know how to say them. Learn the colors! You don’t want somebody to ask you what’s that color and you replying back with nothing. Also numbers in important. French over all is not that hard to learn. Kids should immediatly start learning there second language therefore they remmeber things more clearly then older people. You might also want to learn 20 words each day and rehearse them and know there meanings and how to read/write them.

it’s impossible to learn a language in that amount of time

    Of what year D:

Well books will help but really you need someone who can teach you HOW to speak it and stuff, fuu~

In one year I learned the basics like….

    Colors a.k.a Les Cooler….noir…………. FAIL

Numbers… 1, deux, trois, quatre, sankFAIL!

For example…. no example its impossible… sorry

I took French in as a freshman … a couple years ago and so I basically forgot it except… "Je m’appelle…" which means ‘My Name is …"

The most you could learn in one month is SOME basics, and maybe how to pronounce it a little bit, since I always found pronunciation hard.

Sorry to disappoint. But I agree with the rest about it being near impossible…. Just take a class….Try youtube to get a feel of what exactly it is your trying to get yourself into, French numbers, alphabet, colors.. they seem easy but its hard to say them….some anyways, I could never get the French Y

If you REALLY apply yourself, you can get a decent base by august.

You won’t become fluent until you have lived in France (or some other French speaking country) for about 10 months.

You could use any number of online sites.

Go through the course at Livemocha.com. Use About.com to get the grammar down. Search French language there. You can NOT become fluent in a language without being able to manipulate the grammar properly.

Unless you are an experienced language learner, I think you might become confused by all the differences between English and French, but people here can help you out. You can also sign up at Amourparisien.ning.com. The people there should be able to help you as well.

BBC languages website has a good French programme for English native speakers.

Fluently by August? What is the rush? Don’t you want to savour the language? If you want the basics, sign up for an intensive course or meet up privately with a French teacher every single day for 1 – 3 hours.

Websites will help, but you need live interaction, not something taped.

Full and fluent french by august? You’ll need a software program and several hours a day everyday to do it IF you really want to.

Check out the websites I included, they should help you out.

(I personally suggest Rocket French or Fluenz).

Honestly, there are some pretty good answers here for you to get a basic start. But when I moved to Paris and heard ONLY French around the clock, including a French girlfriend — it took about 4 months to be able to be conversational and not just have a few words here and there. Admittedly, I didn’t take classes. So maybe with total immersion AND a coach, you could cut this time in half.

OR…Just get into your Time Machine, go forward about 100 years to the future where they can install a program in your head so that you immediately begin speaking a foreign language à la ‘The Matrix’. Then get back into the machine and return to the present or next August if you’re in a hurry to get there…Voilà!

I don’t like to brag, but I passed GCSE German with A* after 4 months of study – mind you, I was a French teacher, which helps! You can’t achieve fluency in so short a time, but you can certainly get a good start on the basics. I would recommend a beginner’s book with CD – try <www.amazon.co.uk> for examples. Study the book, and listen to the CD whenever you can – in the car, on the bus, walking along etc etc. Don’t go too fast – make sure you know each section before going on to the next, and if you can practice with someone who is good at French, so much the better. Good luck!

    Fluent french by august huh?
Take an intensive class during daytime, and study on rosetta stone the rest of the time you have free.

You won’t fluent, but you’ll be alright.
